CHILD PROTECTION

Across the globe, children of all ages, nationalities, religions, races and cultures suffer from violence, exploitation and abuse. The problem is even worse in the world’s poorest communities who remain most vulnerable because they’re less likely to receive crucial support from adults. Children facing these issues are unable to exercise their other important rights ranging from food, shelter, adequate health services and education which further impairs their development and perpetuates the cycle of poverty.

The Child Protection program in Arc Kenya was established in 2011. With support from donors, the government and other local partners, Arc Kenya seeks to save Africa children’s lives, to defend their rights, and to help them fulfill their potential. For the last 7 years, we have never given up in achieved improved child protection and welfare under the projects through well-coordinated interventions to rescue and prevent children from Western Kenya region and its environs from being abused or molested. We have trained 377 teachers in matters related to Child Protection. We have also trained over 20 Trainers of Trainers (T.O.Ts) in the community, 60 C.P. Agents and supported 640 and 25 F.B.Os and C.B.Os respectively.

We have managed this through a collection of efforts that include education support, nutrition, sensitization, habitation, psycho-social support and counseling, medication both preventive and curative and also referral to Child Protection Unit at the police and local administrators. Arc Kenya also reduces child abuse and advocate for respect for children’s rights in our communities through carrying out advocacy campaigns, attending network meetings, holding sensitization workshops, children’s participation in awareness creation, teacher training, parenthood training and formation of child rights clubs in school we work with.
